CombustibleLemon77's Complex

NOTE: THIS SITE IS NOT FINISHED YET
I don't know when I'll finish it but uhh. yeah not yet sorry, you can explore around though; see what i have so far
This is pretty much just a hub for all of my content. I made this so I could share it on Discord and people could easily see my liminal stuff. My definition of "liminal" differs a little from most people. While for most people, an example would be an old empty suburban house interior, that is still liminal to me, but I like big complexes like the one in the background. I have megalophilia (megalophobia, but where phobia means fear, philia means attraction. And megalophobia means fear of large spaces, so megalophilia means I like large spaces). Also, the "hours" part down there is when I'll likely be online. I don't know a better word for that other than hours or schedule. Also, this site is very new, so please let me know if you see any errors or mistakes or anything!

This is all of the liminal photos I've taken. Get ready, because there's a lot. This section is organized into more buttons, most corresponding to a trip we took either specifically to look for liminal spaces or one that happened to have liminal spaces. The worse ones are colored red and the better ones are colored green (and yellow in between), so you have an idea of which are good and which aren't.(Purple ones are my favorites and mean a lot to me.)Also, you can click an image to zoom in.Note: I got my new phone on May 1st (5/1/2024) so all images after that point will be higher quality.TO DO:
- Upload more trip photos
- Upload more misc photos

This trip was to a concert. I don't like concerts, so I didn't want to go, but I did like how liminal some parts of this were. This is the first liminal trip we took after I got my Google Photos account, so this is the earliest one I could access. This one also isn't very good. I suggest you skip to the next one.

We were visiting our grandparents in Pennsylvania, so we went to a dying mall to take pictures because we thought it might be liminal.I'm glad we did.

This was our first trip to Coventry Mall, our first really good liminal space exploration.I found Coventry Mall on YouTube, a video by Alfarex, and when I investigated to see if it was real footage or 3D rendered, I found that not only was it real but it was very close (only like a 30 to 45 minute drive) to my grandparents' house in Pennsylvania. It was such an experience, my first really good liminal space, that I even started to recreate it in Garry's Mod.I took mostly videos, so there aren't many images.

I can't really tell you where this is, but the images are definitely good.

Nothing special. Apparently this counts as a mall? I disagree. Images are pretty good for the most part, but there's not that many of them. Also, I think this is the first set of images I took with my new phone, so these ones will be much higher quality than the previous ones.

We went to another mall. This one has quite a lot of images, but they're not very good. If you scroll enough and really look, there are some good ones, but good luck finding them.

3D Renders
Go up (Home)
Usually to make liminal stuff, I use AI, but sometimes I 3D render stuff. I use Hammer, which makes maps for the video game engine Source, which is what games like Portal 2, Half-Life 2 and Garry's Mod use.Lots of people say I should use blender, and they're right, I really should, but I haven't had very much time to learn recently, and also I'm more into making interactive, explorable maps than single images or videos. This section is not finished yet; come back later

We went on a road trip to visit family, but we also found the opportunity for some liminal space images.

Coventry Mall 7/4/2024

Our second visit to Coventry Mall. We went back because... well, we were in the area and wanted to check it out again. All of the workers were off because it was July 4th (Independence Day) so we got to go in and explore all we liked. We ate dinner at Big Phil's, which used to be a TGI Friday's. (TGI Friday's door handles look like a backwards F and a forwards F, so for Big Phil's they turned it into a backwards B and a forwards P.)Again, we took mostly videos, so not that many images.

We took another trip to visit a concert, which my sister was into. I don't like concerts - they're too loud and crowded. This trip also brought us to this beautiful mall. Seriously, just look at the pictures.

These ones were all too small to put in separate "trips" in the photos section, so I'm putting them here.

Airports are pretty liminal at night, and sometimes during the day too if they have neat or unusual architecture.

My name's Lem (just kidding), I have one sibling (a younger sister), I live in the USA and my time zone is CST.I'm into puzzle games like Portal, and I also like building things.Portal 2 was my childhood favorite game, so that's where my name and profile picture come from. And I've always been really into liminal spaces. For as long as I can remember I've loved them - long before I even knew what they were called.

Current Status: (may not be up to date)
Status: Offline mostly; going on a trip to our grandparents' house
Updated: 12/21/2024

This is when I'll most likely be online.I don't really know a good way to do this, other than just writing it out. So here you go:(Time zone is CST - Central Standard Time; US)I will not be on much. Our parents have introduced new screen time policies.

Summer
If I'm not on a trip or something, or like at a summer camp, I'll likely be online. We get a lot of free time during summer.

Weeks
My parents are divorced (no big deal) so here's what we do for most weeks:
Monday through Wednesday morning I am at my dad's house, but my mom picks me up from school so she has me Wednesday evening through Friday morning. On weekends we alternate, at our dad's house one week and our mom's house the next week.

Weekdays (School)
On weekdays, I have school from 7am to 4:30pm (6:30pm on Thursday) and I go to sleep at 11pm usually. I usually have homework, though. I try to wake up at 6am but sometimes I fail.

Weekends
I am probably online. If I'm at my mom's house, I go to sleep at ~11 or 12 pm usually. At my dad's, it's a bit later.

Opinions on AI
Go up (Home)
AI is a very sensitive topic, so I've summarized my views here to link to anyone whenever I want to tell them my opinions.Basically, I use AI to generate art, music, and sometimes video because I think it is a really good tool to use, and I am really passionate about it. I consider the creation of AI art itself as a form of art, because I think it takes a lot of skill to refine your prompt so precisely.1. "But AI art isn't real art!!! / You don't make the art, the AI does!!!" First of all, this is your opinion, and you have to understand that neither you nor I are objectively right or wrong. We both believe our side of the argument is right. I am willing to try to understand the point of view of the other side, and if you're not, you need to grow up. Second, to address the argument: again, I consider the creation of AI art to be a form of art because it took a while for me to be as good at it as I am now, and I am really proud of the results and kinds of things I am getting from it. (Restated: I think AI art is a form of art because it takes a lot of skill to be able to refine your prompt like I do, and it took a while for me to get to the level I am now at it.)2. "But it destroys careers!!!" Okay. How? I get that songs and artwork is sometimes used to train AI without the creator's consent, but we don't really have proof that the programs I specifically use do that, and even if they do, here's the thing. I don't really care. I don't mean this disrespectfully, and I'm not saying I don't care about the people whose lives it's impacted, but the thing is there's not really anything I can do about it, other than stopping to use AI, and I'm only one person - it's not gonna make that much of a difference. (And I already said why I don't want to stop.)3. "Why not just draw yourself?" I have absolutely no drawing skills, and I struggle to even come up with the layouts for my liminal spaces (what I usually use AI to generate). Something I can do is 3D modeling, using tools like Minecraft and Hammer (for Source). Minecraft is cool, and I'm great at using Hammer, and in fact I do make liminal spaces in Hammer, quite often actually, but it takes a while and doesn't look as good. (And again, I struggle to come up with the layout of the rooms.) Another question I get asked often is "Why not use Blender instead?" I get it, because Hammer is extremely limiting, but the thing is I want to make spaces you can walk around in, not still images or videos. And I've tried to use Blender in the past and it is just... very complicated. I'll try it again someday but for now I'll stick with Hammer.4. "Just learn to draw / take art classes / whatever!!1" It's not that simple. I can't just "LEARN". It takes years to do it to the skill level I would want to have to draw instead of using AI, and even then it won't be photorealistic like AI is. But the most important thing is I don't want to waste years of my life to learn to draw just because of this argument. Yes, waste. (Again, not trying to be disrespectful here, and I get your argument, but I just ask that you try to contemplate my side as well.)About Arguing
So, first of all, nobody wants unnecessary drama. second of all, I cannot state this enough. Neither of our views are OBJECTIVELY correct; they are both OPINIONS. I try to see your side from your POV when we're arguing, but I've been in many arguments where they have refused to see my side, and ones where they have outright stated that I am objectively incorrect. Please don't. "Incorrect" doesn't apply to this because it is an opinion. (Also, while arguing, PLEASE keep things respectful, and don't shout.)

Music
Go up (Home)
I have a very picky music taste. For example, I usually don't like songs with lyrics. I have a big YouTube playlist of all of the music that I like:

But in terms of liminal spaces, I have something else: a big tier list of my favorite liminal space tracks.S tier is the best of the best, and F tier is the worst of the best. That means that F tier songs here are still better than all of the other songs on my playlist. F tier is good, not bad, just S tier is better. Also, the image may not be entirely accurate - as in, I have a really liminal song on my playlist that I haven't put there yet. Just be patient; I update it every once in a while.

Spring Break 2025

For spring break, we visited our family in Florida. It was... very hot. But also fun. And the airports were pretty liminal.
